Dawn Over Gastineau Channel

The sunrise yesterday morning was simply magical. This shot of Gastineau Channel at dawn is just a teaser of some shots I will post in the next couple of days.

Dawn At Douglas Boat Harbor

The peacefulness of this scene is a bit deceiving. When I went to the Douglas Boat Harbor on Saturday morning at dawn, the boat ramp bustled with activity as many hunters were busy launching their boats. They were likely trying to take advantage of calm conditions at sea and the fresh snow overnight that may have driven deer down to sea level.

Aurora Harbor At Dawn

Fog lingers over Aurora Harbor and Gastineau Channel in this view looking south at dawn yesterday morning. We are enjoying a stretch of exceptional fall weather, with mostly clear and sunny skies. May it last!

Freedom Of The Hills

Franz Mueter, Noah Jenkins and I left the Eaglecrest parking lot at 6 AM yesterday morning for a pre-dawn climb of Mount Ben Stewart. The goal was to reach the top of the mountain before sunrise, and then ski down the steep Cropley chute. After a couple hours we were at what felt like the top of the world, surrounded by one some of the finest vistas Southeast Alaska has to offer. As we waited for sunrise, Noah enjoyed a few jumps, here with Stephens Passage and Seymour Channel in the background. In the picture below, Frans takes a break near the summit.
