Gearing Up For A New Skiing Season At Eaglecrest

It’s been almost six months since Florian and I carved our last turns at Eaglecrest, after snowshoeing up in mid-June. This shot dates back even longer, and shows Florian enjoying some of the magical powder on the backside of Pittman’s Ridge, with them mountains of Admiralty Island looming in the distance across Stephens Passage. Regardless of what the lift situation is this weekend, we are ready for another great ski season! Check out this little clip I made earlier this year of Florian (wearing a grey helmet) and his buddy Logan Miller (wearing a black helmet), the Eaglecrest ‘Shredders’. I am sure they are ready to try out new tricks this season.

Yukon River Summer Fun

One of the fondest memories I have of our recent trip down the Yukon River was to see the kids (there were six kids, 10 adults and one dog on the trip)  just enjoying the freedom of playing and entertaining themselves at our campsites, which were mostly located on little islands or gravel bars, surrounded by the fast-moving Yukon River.  Here, our son Florian, along with his playmates Logan Miller and Keanna Tarver, cool off as they race across a pool of water on an island, with the Yukon River in the background.

Eaglecrest Shredder

Logan Miller, age 8, performs a 180 ski trick at Eaglecrest Ski Area near Juneau. Logan and our son Florian became skiing buddies this winter, and enjoy freestyle skiing and practicing their 180’s, 360’s, ‘Spread Eagle’ and other ski tricks together. Here’s a video I made of some of their tricks:
