Midnight Sun Over Denali (Mount McKinley)

Midnight Sun on Mount McKinley Denali National Park from Wonder Lake - (c) Laurent Dick - Wild Alaska TravelI took this picture at 12:10 AM yesterday from Wonder Lake  just as the last sun rays were illuminating Denali (Mount McKinley) and its neighboring peaks in the Alaska Range. Florian, Karsten and I rode our bikes from Kantishna to take in this magical evening and to see the midnight sun. Needless to say that I love the long summer days in Alaska. It just seems that the flood of light is endless.

Yukon River Journey

This summer we paddled another section of the Yukon River, from Minto to Dawson City (a little over 200 miles) in Canada’s Yukon Territory. I will post a few more shots this week from this journey. One of the great things about traveling northern rivers such as the Yukon in the summer is the ability to paddle under the midnight sun, like here near the confluence of the Yukon and the Stewart River. We traveled according to ‘River time’, when time actually didn’t matter anymore as we just followed the rhythm and flow of the river.
