Moose And Missiles

A couple of moose browse near the entrance of the missile defense complex at Fort Greely near Delta Junction, which has become the front line in the United States’ missile defense system. This picture, taken several years ago, was never published, but it has remained one of my favorite uniquely Alaskan photos. It represents both the abundance of moose in the Tanana Valley but also the often overlooked reality of the large military presence in Interior Alaska.
