The first light of the day illuminates the Fairweather Range as the most recent storm system closes in from the Gulf of Alaska. I am off to northern Alaska to guide a Northern Lights viewing tour. Stay tuned…

Fairweather Range

The Alaska Airlines flight from Yakutat to Juneau reveals some of the most awesome mountain scenery in the world, such as the Fairweather Range, which is the southernmost part of St. Elias Mountains. I can’t believe it’s been already over 15 years since my climb on Mount Logan’s East Ridge. Time to go back!

Fairweather Range

undefined

Straddling the Alaska-British Columbia border in the southern end of the St. Elias Range, the Fairweather Range is located about 20 miles east of the Gulf of Alaska. Mount Fairweather, elevation 15,325 feet, is pictured to the right. It’s the highest peak of the range and one of the world’s highest coastal mountains. I captured this shot on our return flight to Juneau last night.
