Moonlight Over Juneau

I have never delved into HDR (High dynamic range) photography yet, and this image taken from Douglas across Gastineau Channel of the moonlight over Juneau last night is just one single image. However, by combining multiple photographs taken at varying exposure levels, HDR images enable photographers to record a greater range of tonal detail than a camera could capture in a single digital photo. I have had my frustrations with the narrow range of tonal detail captured by by a single digital photo, and will likely explore HDR photography in the future. Tonal mapping can give HDR photography a surreal look, making an image look more like a painting than a photograph.

The View Above From Our House…

This week I am challenging myself to take pictures from within a small radius around our house in downtown Juneau. This first image is looking up to the treeline on the southern flanks of Mount Juneau. I always appreciate the presence of fog, as it always adds more depth to the scene.

Moonrise Over Mount Juneau – Part 2

undefined

The full moon rising above the slopes of Mount Juneau this past weekend was truly spectacular, it just seemed so huge. This a slightly different perspective from what I posted yesterday. This frame was taken from the Highland Estates with my 300mm/F4 with a 1.4 teleconverter. Sometimes, photographers will ‘sandwich’ multiple exposures into one, especially with the moon, but this is definitely not the case here.

Moonrise Over Mount Juneau

undefined

A full moon rises on the upper slopes of Mount Juneau this past weekend. I happened to be driving down the Egan Highway when I saw portions of the moon reveal itself. I proceeded to stop at the Mendenhall Wetlands turnout and waited for the moon to rise. It actually appears as if the moon is rolling down the slopes of Mount Juneau.
