Dog Mushing In The Brooks Range

Iditarod veteran Jason Mackey and his son Patrick mush their teams across the open tundra near the North Fork of the Chandalar River on their spring caribou hunt. This area is also known as the Chandalar shelf just east of the Dalton Highway, and is an area where caribou often winter. This year, the caribou were wintering about 200 miles further to the east.
