Northwest (French) Ridge, Mount Huntington

French Ridge Mount Huntington - (c) Laurent Dick - Wild Alaska TravelMount Huntington’s corniced “French” ridge is the original line of ascent of this iconic Alaskan mountain and one of the visually most stunning lines in the Alaska Range. Famed French guide Lionel Terray of Chamonix and his party first ascended this ridge in 1964. While overshadowed in absolute elevation by Denali (Mount McKinley), Mount Huntington is a steeper peak: in almost every direction, faces drop over 5,000 feet in about a mile. Even its easiest route presents significantly more technical challenge than the standard route on Denali.
