Humpback Whale Breaching At North Pass

A Humpback Whale breaches at North Pass north of Juneau yesterday, with the Point Retreat Lighthouse at the northern tip of Admiralty Island vaguely visible in the distance. Watching whales was definitely one of the highlights of the annual Golden North Fishing Derby, at least for me. Needless to say that neither Greta nor I caught the big one. We actually didn’t catch many salmon at all, but we nevertheless had a great time during this 72-hour fishing marathon. Florian opted to fish on a more successful boat (we couldn’t blame him for this move) with his uncle Sean and aunt Heidi, who both made it into the top 65 among the almost 2,000 participants.
