Skiers And Snowboarder Perform Backflips On Douglas Island

Juneau residents Jarrett Thomas, Sam Buck, and Dylan Wenzlau, from left to right, perform backflips after simultaneously launching off a ramp on Douglas Island this past weekend. What may appear as a crazy stunt rather was the result of years of practice and a high level of trust that the three friends share among each other. According to Jarrett Thomas, 22, “we’ve been hitting jumps since the 6th grade, everyone we ride with feeds off each other to be able to master the tricks they are trying. We all started by going into the back country and building jumps that fit our needs and giving us potential to push ourselves more each day. On days without powder, we’d often hit the terrain park and progress our abilities on rails and hard packed jumps, thus learning how to land and take off backwards, which in powder becomes a difficult task. We do, and have done a lot of filming, giving us drive to push ourselves to learn more difficult tricks and be able to recap on what we did throughout the day.
