Sailing Gastineau Channel

A sailboat is tacking in Gastineau Channel earlier this week. Most sailboats can sail at about 45 to 50 degrees off the wind.  Tacking, or coming about, is turning from one side of the wind to the other by turning through the eye of the wind—the direction the wind is coming from. Here, the wind was coming up the channel from the south, and the sailboast was tacking southeast and southwest.
