Telemark Skiing On The Backside Of Douglas Island

Gwenna Corvez performs a classic forward bent knee “telemark” turn on the backside of Douglas Island this past weekend. Unlike alpine skiing equipment, the skis used for telemarking have a binding that only connects the boot to the ski at the toes, just as in cross-country skiing. Gwenna joined Florian and I for an afternoon of glorious powder skiing and fun in the sun. We appreciate Gwenna for being Florian’s K-1 teacher at the Juneau Community Charter School and no less important from a Francophone point of view for the fact that she grew up in France and is fluent in French.
