Midnight Sun Over Denali (Mount McKinley)

Midnight Sun on Mount McKinley Denali National Park from Wonder Lake - (c) Laurent Dick - Wild Alaska TravelI took this picture at 12:10 AM yesterday from Wonder Lake  just as the last sun rays were illuminating Denali (Mount McKinley) and its neighboring peaks in the Alaska Range. Florian, Karsten and I rode our bikes from Kantishna to take in this magical evening and to see the midnight sun. Needless to say that I love the long summer days in Alaska. It just seems that the flood of light is endless.

Polar Bear Swim

The annual polar bear swim on Saturday attracted a crowd of brave Nomeites and visitors who braved rain, wind and cool temperatures to take a quick dip in the chilly Bering Sea. Incidentally, a polar bear was seen just a few miles south of Nome earlier this week.
