We are back in a period of low pressure systems cycling through the Gulf of Alaska. Rain, wind, and no end in sight… This shot is looking towards St. James Bay and the Chilkat Mountains during a lull in the storm system.

"Sucker Hole" Over Lynn Canal

A “sucker hole” is a small patch of clearing amidst a gray overcast sky. The tiny area of blue sky, like here over Lynn Canal, tricks some people to think that maybe the skies are going to clear up, only to be duped when the hole disappears and the solid overcast returns — as in Mother Nature going: “Sucker!”
