Alaska Polar Bears Feeding On Bowhead Whale Remains

Alaska Polar Bears, their fur illuminated by the setting sun, feed on a bowhead whale carcass left by Inupiaq whale hunters near the village of Kaktovik last week. This fall, an unprecedented number of 80 Polar Bears were counted in Kaktovik in one single day! Although there isn’t much scientific proof yet, there’s little doubt in my mind that retreating sea ice causes more Polar Bears to spend time on land.
