White Pass – Alaska/British Columbia Border

As we headed back to Juneau, we traded the sunny weather of the Yukon with the rainy weather along the coast. The landscape along White Pass felt otherworldly as we drove through in drifting snow. White Pass is the highpoint along the Klondike Highway near the Alaska/British Columbia border. Here, moist air masses pushing up from the coast clash with the cold air masses of the interior. This area also marks the continental divide, with the water flowing north into the headwater lakes of the Yukon River and eventually emptying into the Bering Sea, and the water flowing south emptying into Lynn Canal and the Pacific Ocean.
