Surfing In Juneau

When one thinks about surfing in Southeast Alaska, Yakutat immediately comes to mind, but not Juneau. However, strong north winds sometimes create wind swells  in a few places where local surfers can ride the waves. Here, Lance Lawhorne of Juneau rides a wind swell in Favorite Channel near a point break at Shrine Island north of Juneau. The combination of cold water and air temperatures make wearing a hooded wetsuit as well as booties and gloves a must.
